android restaurant menu Android Menu for a Restaurant Attractive to Patrons – Recent Usage Statistics Revealed In recent news, a Pew study that spanned from June 29th through August 8th (2012) – and that included the views or more than 9,000 adults (which included more than 4,000 mobile users) – has concluded that the usage of Android tablets is on the rise amongst consumers. The study revealed some interesting findings regarding tablet usage amongst US adults. We find these statistics to be interestingly in favor of the Android menu for a restaurant alternative, for restaurant owners who are seeking to reduce initial hardware costs while upgrading their restaurant to digital menus of the future.

The Pew study findings revealed that:

  • More than 22% of all adults in the US now own a tablet devoice of some kind; which is more than double the amount from about the same time a year ago.
  • According to the study, 23% of people plan on purchasing a tablet device within the next 6 months.
  • Smartphone ownership in the USA rose from 35% to 44% overall (May 2012).
  • By comparison, 64% of tablet users prefer reading news on their tablet as opposed to 63% on smartphones. The differentiating factor is that 73% of tablet users are more apt to “sometimes” read in-depth news articles; 19% daily) compared to 61% and 11% with smartphone users.
  • Pew was sure to note in their study that users widely refrain from using “paid” content whatsoever.

Increasing Rise in Android Tablet Ownership, According to Pew

The real kicker – and the meat and potatoes of this article – is that according to the study, there’s been an increasingly positive rise in consumers purchasing and using Android tablet devices. Attesting to this dichotomy is that the rising popularity of the Android tablet has successfully downsized Apple’s previously dominate market share overall. Testament to this is that over the past year, Android has slowly pushed its way into a stronger market presence. The iPad tablet has dropped from 81% of the market to just 52% of the market in 12 months, allotting a powerful and far more commanding 48% of the overall share for Android. However, the study also noted that iPad owners do tend to use their device more often and for more functions.

This lends fervor to the notion that Android tablets share a nearly equal market value and appeal to consumers, separated by a meager 4% difference. For restaurant owners who are seeking to implement digital menus, but are stifled by the high cost of acquiring the iPad tablets necessary to do so, they can also look towards the Android Restaurant Menu as a more cost effective alternative that has nearly as equal appeal to patrons as its iPad rival.
